Orange team Color War reports

Color war!!! Yay! I so love color war! In the last two days I have had so much fun! I am so proud of everyone - Orange Pirates and Blue Ninjas alike. It has been so great to have seen the teams try their best. They have really pulled together and worked hard. I truly believe that it has brought everyone closer together and has been an awesome learning experience.

Color war has been phenomenal for me. Since day one I have been working so hard at camp. I have given my all. Color war, my idea of it, scared me to begin with. I thought "Oh no, I will not do well". Although as we started signing up for the events I got more excited. I decided to focus hard on one event a day and then do my best to help wherever I was needed later. I climbed Mt. Baker the first day and rocked it. I didn't win, but I made it to the top which was victory enough. The second day I ran a 5k. I paced myself as I had practiced, and sprinted at the end. I pushed myself to the limit, again victory! I look forward to tomorrow's soccer tournament. I will be exhausted but it will be good for me. I am so happy to see how far I've come. Color war has shown me that my hard work pays off. Victory!

I never thought that color war could be so much fun. I absolutely love it and wish it could last longer. I've done things in color war that I couldn't possibly do before, and you don't even realize what you've accomplished until after. We've done so much stuff like Capture the flag using the whole campus; a track meet with a 5k (which I completed), high jump, 100 yard sprint; a relay and a water balloon catapult. We also did a rope burn, a yoga challenge, a legit triathlon in Lake Placid, a dance off and much more. You don't even realise how much exercise you're getting because it's so much fun! Sadly this is the last day for color war but I will definitely remember all the things I've accomplished in it.

Colour War break 2009!

Each year we try to break colour war in a more exciting and dramatic way than before and this year was no exception. After close liaison with the local Volunteer Fire Service and Campus Safety we concocted an awesome plan!

Late on Saturday night all campers and staff were evacuated from the 3 dorms under the pretence of a real fire in Saratoga. The Fire Department arrived with sirens blaring to search the buildings and head count the residents. Things were looking serious until all of sudden, the chief fire officer announced that Colour War 2009 had begun and teams of ninjas and pirates leapt from the firetruck to commence battle!

3rd Annual IronHop Triathlon 2009

Today at Wellspring New York we had our very own Ironman Triathlon! The original Ironman Triathlon is held every year in Hawaii and includes three endurance events; a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike ride and ending with a 26.2 mile marathon. When the first competition commenced it was decided amongst the racers that whoever finished first would be titled the "Ironman".

Last weekend a qualifying Iroman race was held in Lake Placid, inspiring us to commence our own Healthy Obsession Triathlon for Wellspring New York, to generate our own set of Iron-tough competitors. The girls didn't allow the torrential rain to dampen their spirits and were impressive when completing the challenge. Upper camp offered great support in the morning, cheering on the Lower and Middle campers and helping to man the hydration station as well as directing competitors around the course. By the afternoon the weather cleared up to make for a fantastic event for the Upper campers, who were even joined by a Middle camper completing the course for the second time in the day!

It really was a fantastic event, and Jess Gault did an amazing job of organising the day. Thank you to Jess and all of the competitors for making today so much fun!

Woodstock '09

Wellspring Woodstock '09! 40 years after the first Woodstock, Wellspring was struck by tie dyed musical talent.
Will, Kim and Kristina enjoying the atmosphere.

The campers really showed off their talents tonight, with everything from poetry to singing and dancing to rhythmic gymnastics. The hippie kids enjoyed a chilled evening of entertainment and socialising, rounded off with fat free ice cream cupcakes!

New Campers!

Our first parent's weekend of the summer was a really big success. It was great to meet so many of our camper's families, and to share the Wellspring programme with them. Parents learned about the scientific basis of the programme, they had culinary classes with chef Laurel, fitness with our fab fitness team in the amazing new gym and they also joined us on our daily morning walk. Some campers had the chance to go off campus and try sticking to the programme whilst eating out. We had a lot of positive feedback from families who were impressed with their daughter's new skills and knowledge about how to live a healthy lifestyle.

On Saturday we were sad to say goodbye to our four week campers and we wish them all good luck in keeping up their good work once they get home. We are excited to welcome our new arrivals who got here on Sunday and have settled in really well so far. Here's to another fun four weeks!

Sundae fun!

Tonight's snack was possibly the most exciting one of the summer so far! We had fat free make your own ice cream sundaes, with a whole selection of low fat toppings! There was a choice of superb strawberries, crushed pretzels, brilliant no pudge brownies, marvellous marshmallows, splendid sprinkles or sliced bananas. Campers chose two toppings each and the average sundae was only 65 calories and 1 gram of fat. The girls are really learning to adapt their diets to lovable low fat foods that love them back! Thank you agin to Chef Laurel for another amazing snack!

We are all getting excited about tomorrow as it is the start of our parent workshop weekend. We can't wait for parents to see how well their daughters have been doing on the programme and for them to learn more about the Wellspring way of life.

Summit chants from Lower Camp

Tonight we had a really fun Summit meeting with Lower Camp. Not only did we have lots of campers moving up to Boulderer and Ascender, but each bunk also made up their own original summit chants. Here they are - enjoy! :)

Swans

Somebody once told me the Swans were goin' roaming
And we ain't stopping anywhere noooowwww
We work out all the time and have fun every minute
and push ourselves all the way

Hey now, we gotta try our best and succeed every day!

The Swans are here and we're making our way!
We got all the people right here to stay....

Shania

Here we are the SWANS!!!

Pelicans

We are Wellspring girls
In a high fat world
Becoming healthy, nutrition wealthy
We are pelicans, we will always win
We aren't the swans, or the falcons

Come on weight loss
Ahhahahahahaha Yeah
Come on weight loss, come on weight loss
oohwhoh ooowhoh

We will walk, we will run till we get the steps done
We will do, what we need till we like what we see
Morning stroll, rock and roll, where's the sun let's have fun
Funny sound, fool around, let's go running
We can climb, we can play, we can say, we are the best group
oohwhoh oohwhoh

Come on weightloss, let's go weightloss
ahhh ahhah ahh yeah

Falcons

Falcons - we fly high, no lie, you know it......FALCONS!
We're bringing falcons back (caw!)

When I grow up I wanna be a falcon
I wanna lose weight, I wanna get healthy
When I grow up I wanna SMJ
Run morning walks, I wanna eat fat free cream cheese
And now that is what I asked for, and for sure I'll get it,
And for sure I'll get it.

All the falcon ladies, all the falcon ladies
All the falcon ladies, all the falcon ladies
All the falcon ladies put your wings up
Up in the gym, trying to get slim,
Trying to get fit this year
Sweat all day, but sleep all night
I've even learnt how to share!

And now for the Falcons Thriller remix!....

Now this looks like a lunch for me
'Cause it has all low calories
And I need a little bison meat

I'm so addicted to
All the healthy food
When it's time to eat
We all flock like geese
And every bite we take
Into all the food they make

I wake up every morning
Facing the morning walk with grace
And I never walk out of place
Meanwhile upper camp is sleeping
And that's nothing to fake
When I lose some weight
It sure makes me proud, makes me proud
When I drop a size
It sure makes me proud
When I hike a mountain that's steep
And finish it well
It sure makes me....... PROUD!

Can't beat our, can't beat our, no you can't beat our falcon bunk
Falcons got you working out
Fa fa fa falcon bunk
Fa fa fa falcon bunk
Tweet tweet.

We're all so confident now
No way you're going to bring me down
Now I don't feel so in denial, in denial

Now falcons out!

The girls all put so much effort into their bunk chants - they were great! And a huge well done to lower camp for their combined weightloss this week of 145.2 pounds! These girls are awesome, we are all excited to see them keeping up the good work over the next few weeks.
